National Human Rights Commission Holds Opening Ceremony for Human Rights Education Institute
Institute Completed with Total Project Cost of 14.7 Billion Won

The National Human Rights Education Institute, under the National Human Rights Commission, officially opened and began full-scale operations on April 28 in Singal-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si.

View original imageThe opening ceremony was attended by Gwangyeol Ryu, the Acting Mayor of Yongin Special City and First Deputy Mayor, Ahn Changho, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, and around 100 other officials.
The National Human Rights Education Institute was established in response to the need for a specialized educational facility to raise human rights awareness and to expand human rights education across both public and private sectors.
With a total project cost of 14.7 billion won, the institute was constructed by renovating and expanding the former customs logistics center building in Singal-dong, Giheung-gu, resulting in a facility with a total floor area of 4,637 square meters, consisting of one basement level and three above-ground floors.
The institute features lecture halls, an online convergence education studio, a healing and training room, a multipurpose experiential education room, an exhibition and video experience room, an exhibition hall, and a concert hall, among other facilities.

In his congratulatory speech, Acting Mayor Gwangyeol Ryu stated, "I am truly delighted that the National Human Rights Education Institute, which will become the hub of human rights education in Korea, has opened in Yongin. I extend my respect and heartfelt applause to all those who have worked tirelessly for the establishment of this institute," adding, "I hope that this institute in Yongin will not simply be a place for imparting knowledge, but will become a precious foundation that awakens human rights awareness in all citizens, and nurtures and spreads the seeds of human rights education that realize the values of dignity and equality."
