Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 31st that it had reinstalled and opened the Jichuk-dong "Unification Bridge Scenic Pedestrian Bridge (provisional name)," which had been demolished after being damaged by heavy rainfall in August 2022, starting from the 30th.

The Unification Bridge is a pedestrian-only scenic bridge with a total length of 86 meters and a width of 6 meters. A total project budget of 5.2 billion won (4 billion won from the national government and 1.2 billion won from the city) was invested. The project involved a design competition in 2024, groundbreaking in June 2025, and opening in March this year.
The design of the Unification Bridge Scenic Pedestrian Bridge goes beyond simply restoring the original bridge, ensuring both a design that harmonizes with the views of Bukhansan Mountain and Changneungcheon Stream, and structural safety. The design was selected through a public competition, and multiple explanatory sessions were held to reflect the opinions of local residents in the final plan.

The design also harmonizes with the landscape of Changneungcheon Stream. With a generous walking width of 6 meters, the bridge is accessible for children, seniors, and stroller users alike.
A space at the center of the bridge offers views of Bukhansan Mountain. The adjacent green area connected to the bridge is planned to be used as a small busking performance venue, a resident rest area, and a community activity hub.
At night, the bridge’s arch structure will be illuminated with gradient lighting, and moving floor lights (Gobo Light) will be projected onto the bridge deck, creating unique and customized event effects. By serving as a community-friendly space, the bridge is expected to become a new local landmark.
