Rumors of Price Hikes and Discontinuation Unfounded
"Full Efforts to Stabilize Supply"
Temporary Shortages Driven by Psychological Reactions
Flexible Management of Distribution in Response
Yangpyeong-gun in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) has addressed recent concerns over the stability of supply for designated garbage bags, stating, "There are absolutely no plans to raise prices, and we are doing our utmost to ensure a stable supply." In particular, the county emphasized that any price increase for designated garbage bags would require an amendment to the relevant ordinance, which must go through legal procedures such as public notice and deliberation by the council. Therefore, the county maintains that a sudden price hike in the near future, as suggested by some, is structurally impossible.
Additionally, the county attributed the temporary shortages seen at some supermarkets and convenience stores not to an actual suspension of supply, but to "psychological panic buying" triggered by unverified rumors. The county analyzed that excessive purchases, concentrated at certain times, led to the rapid depletion of stock at retail locations.
In response, the county is focusing its administrative resources on managing distribution in order to minimize inconvenience for residents and stabilize the market. Measures include flexibly adjusting supplies for each retail location, ensuring demand does not become concentrated at specific stores, and recommending a "purchase quantity limit per person" at designated outlets to establish order in distribution.
Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "The recent rumors of a sharp price increase or production suspension for designated garbage bags are completely untrue. We are working closely with manufacturers to ensure that supply continues without disruption."

He further said, "Temporary shortages are occurring due to some panic buying. Excessive purchasing may cause inconvenience to neighbors who need to buy designated garbage bags when necessary. We ask that residents join efforts to stabilize the market by purchasing only the quantities needed, demonstrating mature civic responsibility."
