This year's memorial ceremony was themed around Kim Yu-jeong's short story "Toad." The event included a reading play and poetry recitation focusing on this work, which humorously depicts human desires and the realities of life in a poor rural setting. Through these performances, the event offered a multidimensional perspective on the writer's literary world.
In particular, this year's memorial ceremony carried even greater significance amid rising international interest in Korean literature. Novelist Han Kang formed a connection with Chuncheon after receiving the 12th Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award for her short story "Farewell" in 2018. As Han Kang has gained global recognition, the Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award has also become more meaningful as it highlights the depth and potential of Korean literature.
The event began with a reading play of "Toad," followed by a recitation of a memorial poem, an introduction to Kim Yu-jeong's brief biography, and then the offering of flowers and incense. A book dedication ceremony was also held to honor and continue Kim Yu-jeong's literary legacy.
Following this, a bust unveiling ceremony took place in the yard of Kim Yu-jeong's birthplace. The newly installed bust, created by sculptor Park Minseop, was donated to Chuncheon City by the Chuncheon branch of the Cheongpung Kim clan. With the installation of this bust, the symbolic space honoring Kim Yu-jeong's life and literature has been further expanded.

Recently, the village was also included in the "2nd Local 100" list selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, reaffirming its status as a leading local cultural tourism destination. With this recognition, the village is expected to greatly contribute to increasing tourist visits and revitalizing local tourism by providing a barrier-free environment that is easily accessible for all ages and backgrounds.
