The purpose of this project is to enhance understanding of climate tech through classes and events on campus, and to support young talent in connecting climate crisis response with entrepreneurship in a practical way. Kyungdong University is operating the course “Climate Crisis and Environmental Conservation” (Professor Lee Jaehyuk), while Shinhan University is offering the course “Social Impact and Changemaker” (Professor Ko Ilkwon).
This project brings together not only Shinhan University and Kyungdong University—both members of the Gyeonggi RISE Consortium—but also major domestic universities including Gachon University, Korea University, Seoul National University, Ewha Womans University, KAIST, and Hanyang University. These institutions will collaborate to invigorate the climate tech startup ecosystem.
Shinhan University will focus on strengthening hands-on climate tech education and social innovation capabilities in connection with the local community in northern Gyeonggi Province, while Kyungdong University plans to enhance problem-solving skills among future generations through educational programs focused on environmental conservation and climate crisis response. Through these efforts, both universities intend to take an active role in building a university-led climate tech ecosystem that links carbon neutrality, entrepreneurship, and regional innovation.
Kang Sungjong, President of Shinhan University (Co-Chair of SPRING RISE), stated, “Being selected for the Asan Nanum Foundation’s Climate Tech Startup Culture Expansion Project is an opportunity for Shinhan University and Kyungdong University to take another step forward as institutions that put the values of carbon neutrality and social innovation into practice with the local community. We will spare no effort in providing education and support so that young people can actively participate in addressing the climate crisis, and connect their efforts to entrepreneurship and innovation.”
