Koo Ja-yong, Chairman of E1, Inaugurated as 21st President of the Korea Invention Promotion Association
A Deep Connection Between the Association and LG·LS
"Must Become a Platform for the Intellectual Property Ecosystem"
Koo Ja-yong, Chairman of E1, has been inaugurated as the 21st President of the Korea Invention Promotion Association.
The Korea Invention Promotion Association announced on the 19th that it held the inauguration ceremony at the Korea Intellectual Property Center in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Since its establishment in 1973, the Korea Invention Promotion Association has been a leading public institution specializing in intellectual property, promoting invention-related initiatives in South Korea for half a century. The association implements various policies and projects to foster creative talent through invention education, strengthen the intellectual property capabilities of universities and companies, support the establishment and growth of intellectual property-based businesses, and provide intellectual property evaluation and financial support, all aimed at spreading the culture of invention and enhancing national competitiveness through intellectual property.
Koo's inauguration has also drawn attention to the longstanding relationship between LG·LS and the Korea Invention Promotion Association. Koo Ja-kyung, former Honorary Chairman of LG Group and then Chairman of Lucky-Goldstar Group, served as the 2nd to 6th presidents of the association's predecessor, the Korea Patent Association. Koo Ja-yeol, Chairman of the Board at LS, served as the 17th and 18th presidents. As a result, LG·LS affiliates have held the presidency for 16 out of the association's 53-year history, accounting for about one-third of its existence.
In his inaugural address, Koo stated, "I have personally experienced how good ideas from the business field can become new technologies, eventually leading to national competitiveness." He emphasized, "In this era of technological supremacy, intellectual property—born of invention—is a core national asset. The Korea Invention Promotion Association should serve as a platform connecting invention, intellectual property, and corporate growth within the intellectual property ecosystem."
