From 212,995 to 573,953 Square Meters: Project Scope Significantly Expanded
Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyunghee) announced on March 19 that it plans to significantly expand the area of the “Noseongsan Natural Recreation Forest” development project currently underway at San 65-16, Susan-ri, Seolseong-myeon, beyond the original plan.

However, following consultations with relevant agencies (Suwon National Forest Management Office and Korea Forest Service) regarding the use of state-owned forests owned by the Korea Forest Service and the designation of the site as a natural recreation forest, the project scope will be expanded to 573,953 square meters—an increase of 36,958 square meters over the original plan. Icheon City will proceed with securing the budget, revising the spatial plan, and completing the administrative procedures for recreation forest designation to facilitate the land exchange and official designation of the entire state-owned forest area as a natural recreation forest.
With the expansion of the project, Icheon City plans to newly add accommodation facilities such as “Forest Houses” in addition to the existing forest rest area, small library, lawn plaza, and children’s forest playground. This will transform the site from a simple rest area into a true “stay-type forest recreation complex” where both lodging and experiential activities are offered.

An official from Icheon City stated, “Although the scope of the project changed due to the expansion agreed upon during consultations regarding the state-owned forest, this will allow us to provide a much higher level of forest recreation services. The diverse recreation facilities to be created within the now much larger green forest will offer citizens comfort and vitality in their daily lives, and we aim to make it a top-tier recreation forest that contributes to revitalizing tourism in the southern region of Icheon City.”
