On March 17, Mayor Sangil Lee of Yongin Special City visited Yeokbuk Elementary School in Cheoin-gu, where he participated in traffic guidance volunteer work to ensure students could commute safely and inspected the new gymnasium under construction.

Mayor Lee encouraged members of the Green Mothers Association and the Parents Association, and joined the traffic guidance volunteer work at the crosswalk near the school's main gate.
Mayor Lee also joined the "Child First Children's Safety Culture Campaign" along with city officials, Yongin Dongbu Police Station, and the Green Mothers Association Federation, providing students with information about the basic safety rules and precautions they should observe in daily life.

View original imageOn the same day, Mayor Lee visited the site of the new indoor gymnasium at Yeokbuk Elementary School to inspect the construction. Construction of the gymnasium began in April 2024, with completion targeted for June this year. The facility will consist of a first-floor parking lot (63.16 square meters), a second-floor cafeteria and kitchen area (779.41 square meters), and a third-floor gymnasium (817.17 square meters).
The total project cost for the gymnasium amounts to 4,817 million won, with the city securing 1,445 million won of this through a special grant from the Ministry of Education. Previously, the city secured 4.1 billion won in special Ministry of Education grants for school environment improvement in 2023.

Mayor Lee stated, "The safety of children directly represents the future safety of our city. With the new semester beginning, it is essential that children can travel to school in greater safety than anyone else. The city will pay even closer attention to create a warm and reassuring route to school, like the spring sunshine."
