It has been confirmed that out of the gift certificates worth 3 million won that Jaemin, a member of the group NCT Dream, sent to fans as White Day gifts, 900,000 won worth were stolen by an Emart employee. Shinsegae Group has issued an apology to customers and announced plans to implement measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
According to industry sources on March 17, Jaemin sent thirty 100,000-won Shinsegae gift certificates to fans in the form of mobile gifticons on the night of March 14 to celebrate White Day. Some fans visited nearby Emart stores as soon as they opened to exchange these for paper gift certificates, but it was discovered that a portion of the certificates had already been exchanged at the Emart Gumi branch.
There were suspicions raised that an employee at the Emart Gumi branch might have exchanged the gift certificates before the store opened and taken them. NCT fans also lodged complaints with Shinsegae Group, which operates Emart. As inquiries from fans poured in, Shinsegae Group launched an internal investigation and found that the employee at the branch had indeed exchanged the certificates first.
