View original imageKorea Midland Power Co., Ltd. announced on March 16 that the 'Boryeong Offshore Wind Power Project,' being jointly promoted with Boryeong City, has been designated as an offshore wind power cluster site by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment at the Renewable Energy Policy Review Committee.
An offshore wind power cluster site refers to a development zone designated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment, limited to areas where local governments take the initiative in selecting sites and ensure resident acceptance and environmental viability through public-private consultative bodies.
Since being selected for the 'Public-Led Large-Scale Offshore Wind Farm Development Support Project' in 2020, Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. has closely collaborated with Boryeong City. With this new designation, the company will gain additional Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) weighting, which will further improve resident acceptance and provide additional resources for returning benefits to the local community.
Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. stated, "This designation is a result of the government's recognition of our efforts in project development based on a public-private collaboration system and our achievements in securing resident acceptance. It will provide further momentum to the development of a large-scale offshore wind farm with a total capacity of 1.3GW to be built near Ocheon-myeon, Oeyeon-do, Hodo, and Nokdo in Boryeong City’s offshore area."
The additional profits secured through the operation of the Boryeong offshore wind power cluster site will be invested primarily in building a mutually beneficial model for the local economy, including profit-sharing with residents and fishermen and fostering a fisheries industry cluster.
