Samsung Electronics and Daegu City Invest 100 Million Won to Provide Safe Housing for 100 Protected Children and Self-Reliant Young Adults
Park Seunghee and Kim Jeonggi Sign MOU
On March 16, the Daegu Metropolitan Government signed the "Hope Stepping Stone Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)" at the Situation Room of the Daegu City Hall Dongin Office Building, together with Samsung Electronics and the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to strengthen employment support and help self-reliant young adults settle stably into society.
Hope Stepping Stone is one of the flagship social contribution projects of Samsung. It provides self-reliant young adults with individual studio-type housing and offers one-on-one customized integrated case management services tailored to each person's abilities. This public-private partnership project aims to offer practical support for independent living.
Key executives attended the signing ceremony, including Kim Jeonggi, Acting Mayor of Daegu, Park Seunghee, President of Samsung Electronics, Vice President Jeong Hyomyung, Executive Director Ha Heonjae, Lee Kyungmin, Advisor at Samsung Life Insurance, as well as Park Yunkyung, President of the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
According to the agreement, Daegu Metropolitan Government and Samsung Electronics will each contribute 50 million won, for a total project budget of 100 million won, to improve the facility infrastructure of the "Daegu Self-Reliance Integrated Support Center," which was established in 2016 as part of Samsung Electronics' social contribution initiatives.
Through these improvements, more comfortable and safer living environments will be provided each year to around 100 children under protection and self-reliant young adults who use the center.
Beyond simply providing housing, job support programs to help young adults achieve economic independence will also be reinforced. Samsung Electronics will support specialized employment training programs, such as courses for "Electronics and IT Manufacturing Technicians" and "Semiconductor Precision Piping Technicians," enabling young adults to build technical competencies and lay the foundation for economic self-reliance.
The Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will identify outstanding local companies and connect self-reliant young adults who have completed job training with suitable positions. In particular, by actively promoting recruitment and business opportunities to its member companies, the Chamber will help young adults settle and thrive independently in the region.
This agreement is significant in that it has established a comprehensive support system for self-reliant young adults taking their first steps into society after leaving child welfare facilities. The system goes beyond temporary assistance and connects "housing stability, educational support, and employment."
The Daegu Metropolitan Government plans to continue expanding employment and self-reliance support policies by actively reflecting the voices of self-reliant young adults.
