Special Investigation Headquarters to Continue Probing Remaining Insurrection and Kim Keonhee Special Prosecutor Cases
Reorganizing the Structure After Transferring About 20 Cases to the Comprehensive Special Prosecutor
The Special Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, which has been handling the remaining cases from the 'three major special prosecutors,' reorganized part of its organization and reassigned cases in order to continue investigating those cases that were not transferred to the Second Integrated Special Prosecutor.
At a regular briefing held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 16th, a police official stated, "We have transferred about 20 cases to the Integrated Special Prosecutor, including the Yangpyeong Expressway route change, stock price manipulation investigation interference, and suspicions regarding the relocation of the official residence."
The Special Investigation Headquarters dispatched a total of 21 investigators to the Integrated Special Prosecutor. Ten investigators from Team 2, which had been investigating the insurrection special prosecutor case, and eleven from Team 3, which was responsible for the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor case, were sent. Accordingly, the composition of the Special Investigation Headquarters for handling the remaining cases was also reorganized. The police official said, "The special investigation system will continue to be maintained to investigate the remaining cases," adding, "We have completed the restructuring to have 17 members in Team 1, 22 in Team 2, and 43 in Team 3."
Originally, Team 1 was in charge of investigating the special prosecutor case involving the fallen Marine, but the case was concluded after forwarding Lee Jongho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Invest, who is considered a close associate of First Lady Kim Keonhee. The Special Investigation Headquarters has adjusted the distribution so that the cases related to the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor, previously investigated by Teams 1 and 3, will be reassigned between the teams, and similar cases at provincial police agencies will be transferred as appropriate.
