Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gumi City, Research Institutes, and Companies Announce Joint Vision
Official Launch of Pohang AI Robotics Companies Council
Anticipation for Company-led Synergy Creation
Pohang City, together with Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gumi City, local robotics companies, and research institutes, has officially begun building an 'industry-academia-government ultra-wide collaboration system' to foster the robotics industry as a future core strategic sector.
On March 16, Pohang City held the 'Gyeongbuk Robotics Industry Development Industry-Academia-Government Joint Proclamation Ceremony' at the Safety Robot Demonstration Center.
This event was organized to formalize the commitment of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Pohang City, Gumi City, local robotics companies, and the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence to revitalize the robotics industry ecosystem in the Gyeongbuk region and nurture the area as a key hub for the robotics industry.
The ceremony was attended by Park Sigyun, Director of the Meta AI Science Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do; Lee Sangyeop, Director of the Employment and Economic Bureau of Pohang City; Nam Byeongguk, Director of the Advanced Industry Bureau of Gumi City; Kang Giwon, President of the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence; as well as Hyunjin Kim, CEO of Fusion ENC; Jonghun Park, CEO of Neuromeka; and a large number of representatives from robotics companies in the Pohang and Gumi regions, who gathered to share strategies for industry development.
During the presentation session, the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence presented a roadmap focused on the localization of key components and the reinforcement of field demonstrations as part of its 'Regional Robotics Company Development Strategy,' offering solutions for strengthening the self-reliance of the robotics industry in the Gyeongbuk region.
Notably, the event also marked the official launch of the 'Pohang AI Robotics Companies Council,' which is expected to become a central driving force for the local robotics industry. The council will lead technological innovation through technology exchange and joint research and development (R&D), serving as a private-sector network to help Pohang build global competitiveness in the robotics market.
The participating organizations agreed through the 'Gyeongbuk Robotics Industry Development Joint Declaration' to strengthen the collaborative system supporting the growth of robotics companies; to create an industrial ecosystem centered on humanoids, AI, and advanced manufacturing; to enhance global competitiveness; and to jointly promote the creation of a national specialized complex for advanced strategic industries in the robotics sector.
Lee Sangyeop, Director of the Employment and Economic Bureau, stated, "This proclamation ceremony marks a meaningful starting point for the Gyeongbuk robotics industry to make a leap forward centered on humanoids and AI," and emphasized, "Pohang is a city with world-class research capabilities and industrial sites optimized for robotics demonstration, including steel and secondary battery industries."
He added, "We hope that the newly launched Pohang AI Robotics Companies Council will become a central pillar of regional growth, and based on industry-academia-government collaboration, we will advance Pohang as the mecca of Korea's robotics industry and a high-value-added autonomous manufacturing industrial city."
