Geochang County Launches Drone Soccer Team for People with Disabilities... A New Beginning for Inclusive Sports
Inaugural Ceremony to Be Held at Geochang County Multipurpose Gymnasium on March 26
Full-Scale Membership Recruitment to Begin
In Geochang County, South Gyeongsang Province, drone soccer—a new sport for people with disabilities—is being introduced as a part of community sports activities. The Geochang County Branch of the Gyeongnam Spinal Cord Injury Association announced that it will hold the inaugural ceremony for the "Geochang County Disabled Drone Soccer Team" at the Geochang County Multipurpose Gymnasium on March 26, 2026, officially launching the team's activities.
This launch aims to expand opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sports and to invigorate the local community by introducing drone soccer, a team sport that can be enjoyed indoors. On the day of the inaugural ceremony, there will be an introduction to the drone soccer sport as well as demonstration programs.
Drone soccer is a sport in which players control drones to score points by flying them through goal rings installed in the arena. The sport emphasizes not only piloting skills but also teamwork and strategy. As an indoor sport, it is less affected by weather or seasonal changes, allowing for regular training. It also features clear role assignments, enabling beginners to participate step by step.
The Geochang County Disabled Drone Soccer Team will be led by Kim Kyungjin, Head of the Geochang County Branch of the Gyeongnam Spinal Cord Injury Association, who will oversee operations as team director. Coach Lee Jinseong will be responsible for player training and tactical guidance. The team plans to systematically provide basic drone piloting education, team tactical training, and safety instruction to create an inclusive team that anyone can join.
With the launch of the team, membership recruitment will begin in earnest. Step-by-step training, starting from beginner courses, will be offered to allow participation even for those with no prior drone piloting experience. Regular practice sessions will be held to deepen understanding of the game and enhance team play. In the future, the team plans to expand the base of drone soccer for people with disabilities by participating in local exchange matches and various competitions.
