"Donations Gathered from Individual Goodwill Must Bear Public Responsibility"
Yoon Yeo-jun Marks One Month as Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea
"When I consider the weight of the years that the Community Chest of Korea has walked and the meaning of the trust contained within, I have come to the conclusion that it is not simply a fundraising organization, but rather an institution that manages the trust of our society. This realization has made me acutely aware of the heavy responsibility I now bear."

Born in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, Chairman Yun graduated from Dankook University with a degree in political science and began his career as a newspaper reporter in the 1960s. He later served in public office, including as Public Information Officer at the Korean Embassy in Japan and as Spokesperson for the Presidential Office. In 1997, he was appointed Minister of Environment, then went on to serve as a member of the 16th National Assembly and as Director of the Yeouido Institute. During last year's presidential election, he served as the Chief Campaign Manager for Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung. On February 5, he assumed the position of Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea for a three-year term.
Known in political circles as a "master strategist" and a "tactician crossing party lines," Yun has played the role of advisor at key inflection points in modern Korean history. Over the past month, after closely examining the Community Chest of Korea, he concluded that what a donation organization manages is not simply money, but the trust of our society.
Chairman Yun stated, "Donations are collected through individual goodwill, but the moment that goodwill comes together, it becomes a public responsibility. If the operations lack transparency or the standards are ambiguous, no matter how good the intentions, it will not convince the public."
He also recognized that the Community Chest of Korea has become well-known to the public and has been able to collect substantial donations due to the special interest and consideration of the media. The warm-hearted neighbors who share what they have and the young people who make new beginnings after overcoming adversity deliver the joy and sense of fulfillment of living together in our society more than any other news. The annual fundraising amount for the Community Chest of Korea increased each year, from 761.9 billion won in 2021 to 986.4 billion won last year.
