According to Korea National Oil Corporation on March 5, President Son held his inauguration ceremony at the Ulsan headquarters of the corporation on the same day and officially began his duties.
In his inaugural address, he stated, "At a critical time when the situation in the Middle East is changing rapidly, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as I take office as President of Korea National Oil Corporation, which is responsible for our nation's energy security," adding, "I will make the faithful fulfillment of our core mission—energy security—the top priority in management."
Born in 1960, President Son graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Kyung Hee University. He has worked for a long time in public institutions related to the environment and energy, serving as Chairman of Korea Institute of Petroleum Management and Chairman of Korea Environment Corporation.
He has also accumulated experience in industry and academia, having served as an advisor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Division at Hanwha Engineering & Construction and as an invited professor in the Department of Health and Environment at Shinsung University.
He also has experience in politics. During the 16th presidential election, he served as head of the administrative support office for candidate Roh Moo-hyun's campaign committee, and later served as the Democratic Party's local committee chair for Sosa District in Bucheon City.
President Son stated, "I will focus on solid growth by restoring financial soundness, qualitatively upgrading oil development projects, and optimizing the operational efficiency of the national oil stockpiling project, which is a national security asset." He continued, "Based on close field-oriented management, I will strive to foster new growth engines to prepare for the future, to ensure safety management, and to promote innovation in AI and organizational culture."

On this day, President Son also held a 'joint labor-management cooperation declaration ceremony' with the Korea National Oil Corporation labor union, agreeing to actively cooperate to overcome management challenges through a labor-management partnership.
