According to the city, at the first strategy meeting of the Next-Generation Shipbuilding TF held on February 10, discussions focused on identifying the mid- to long-term development direction and implementation tasks for the shipbuilding industry in the southwestern region of South Jeolla Province.
The "Mokpo Big Picture Project" is the governance framework of the 9th popularly elected city administration for identifying key strategic tasks, designed to proactively respond to rapidly changing policy and industrial environments and to secure sustainable future growth engines. The Next-Generation Shipbuilding TF is operated as one of the core industrial strategies within this project.
The meeting was attended by major industry-academia-research innovation institutions such as the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering, the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute, Mokpo National University, Mokpo National Maritime University, and Jeonnam Technopark, along with regional shipbuilding and marine-related companies including HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Youil Co., Ltd., Korea Made Co., Ltd., VINSSEN Co., Ltd., and Renover Co., Ltd., thereby strengthening the foundation for cooperation.
The agenda included presentations on strategies to advance the eco-friendly ship industry in the southwestern region of South Jeolla Province, as well as the current status and development direction of establishing a research hub centered on the South Port of Mokpo. Based on these presentations, participants exchanged in-depth views on the future vision and strategy for the regional shipbuilding industry.
In particular, the participants agreed to focus on several core tasks: creating an eco-friendly and smart ship research hub centered on the South Port, establishing a mutual cooperation system linking Mokpo, Yeongam, and Haenam, and devising plans to attract companies and create quality jobs. They also committed to identifying concrete implementation tasks for these priorities.
The city plans to select key strategic tasks derived from the TF discussions through briefings and strategy meetings, and then actively utilize them in efforts to secure national funding and as preparation material for operating the 9th popularly elected city administration.
