In response, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, commissioned by Gyeonggi Province, has established a system to subsidize the use of private ambulances, enabling bedridden disabled persons to travel safely to and from hospitals.
The program is available to severely mobility-impaired individuals who reside in Gyeonggi Province and either receive 24-hour activity support benefits under the "Gyeonggi-do Bedridden Disabled Persons Mobility Support Ordinance" or have been provided with beds or electric beds through assistive device support programs. Eligible individuals can receive support when using private ambulances within Gyeonggi Province for hospital visits and returning home after treatment.
The subsidy covers 90% of the basic transportation and treatment fee, with a maximum reimbursement of 67,500 won per trip (based on special ambulance rates), depending on the type of ambulance used. Each person can receive support up to four times per month (one-way trips). However, any additional charges for distances exceeding 10 kilometers, as well as extra and surcharge fees, must be paid by the user.
To use the service, individuals must first register as eligible users with the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation Metropolitan Mobility Support Center. Registration applications and supporting documents can be submitted via email or post. The center will verify eligibility in cooperation with local governments and individually notify applicants of the approval results.
Once registration is approved, users can directly call a private ambulance within the province. After using the service, they must submit the subsidy application form, receipt, and medical confirmation to the Metropolitan Mobility Support Center by the 10th of the following month. After reviewing the documents, the center will deposit the subsidy into the applicant's account around the 20th of each month.
