Strengthening Customized Education for Emerging Industries: AI, IoT, and Cybersecurity
Dongseo University is dedicating significant efforts to projects that nurture future talent through industry-driven engineering education in line with the digital transformation.
The Center for Innovation in Engineering Education at Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk), led by Director Kim Heeseong, announced on January 5 that it is operating industry-customized educational programs tailored for the era of digital transformation (DX), and has achieved visible results in fostering practical engineering talent.
This industry-specialized education is characterized by its incorporation of core competencies required in the industrial field into the curriculum. By focusing on future core technology sectors such as generative AI, IoT, and cybersecurity, the hands-on and project-based education goes beyond theory to provide learning experiences similar to real industrial environments, thereby significantly strengthening students' ability to respond in the field.

View original imageThe Center for Innovation in Engineering Education has conducted a total of five industry-specialized programs: ▶Tech Insider: Practical Generative AI Training for Engineering Students ▶AirTech: Innovation Campus ▶CyberX: Practical Cybersecurity Training & Challenge ▶App Inventor-Based IoT Fine Dust Project ▶IoT-Based Smart Lamp Artificial Intelligence Utilization Project. Each course is structured as a problem-solving, hands-on class, contributing not only to students' understanding of their major but also to the improvement of their practical technology application skills.
Additionally, the university enhanced the effectiveness of its education by utilizing DSU FabLab (EPIC), an open laboratory space equipped with various tools. Students were able to directly carry out the entire process from idea planning to design, production, and verification in this space, gaining practical learning experiences linked to capstone design and engineering design courses.
Lee Sinhyuk, a fourth-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said, "Being able to work directly with technologies used in the field, rather than just focusing on theory, was a great help in clarifying my career path. I was particularly impressed by the level-based hands-on projects utilizing AI and IoT, and I would strongly recommend them to my juniors."

Kim Heeseong, Director of the Center for Innovation in Engineering Education, stated, "This education is designed to enable students to systematically acquire the practical skills required in the digital transformation era," and added, "We will continue to expand DX-based education that reflects industry demand, striving to foster engineering talent connected to the local industry."
