Establishment of the Buddhist Social Welfare Community Fundraising Association
and Strategies for Building an Integrated Financial System
Professor Mira Lee of the Department of Social Welfare at Dong-Eui University received the Excellence Award at the Policy Proposal Contest held by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism Research Institute.
The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism held the policy proposal contest for the general public to promote the revival of Buddhism and the development of the order, and the award ceremony took place at Damsou in Jogyesa, Seoul, on December 24.
Professor Lee analyzed the issue of temple donation funds leaking outside the Buddhist community from a social structural perspective in her proposal titled "Establishment of the Buddhist Social Welfare Community Fundraising Association and Construction of an Integrated Financial System." She suggested ways to enhance financial transparency and social contribution by establishing a Buddhist Social Welfare Community Fundraising Association within the order, which led to her winning the Excellence Award and a prize of 2 million won.
Her proposal was evaluated as a fundamental system innovation plan to secure transparency through integrated management of dispersed resources, increase social trust in Buddhism, and expand the social role of the order.

The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism stated, "This contest was held to gather ideas from the fourfold assembly and use them as the foundation for policy development," adding, "We will work closely with the awardees to ensure that excellent proposals are actually reflected in our policies."
