Goryeong County Selected as Outstanding Institution in Basic Pension Program Evaluation
The Only Recipient in North Gyeongsang Province
Awarded Commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare
Goryeong County was selected as the only outstanding institution in North Gyeongsang Province in the '2025 Basic Pension Program Merit Institution Evaluation' organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducts a comprehensive annual evaluation of the overall basic pension program to identify and reward local governments that contribute to the stable operation of the basic pension system and the enhancement of senior welfare. Evaluation criteria include the application rate and benefit rate for the basic pension, the recovery rate of improper payments, and budget execution performance.
The basic pension is a system that provides a certain amount of money to those aged 65 and over whose recognized income falls within the lowest 70%, in order to ensure income security and stability in old age. As of the end of November 2025, Goryeong County is providing basic pension payments to 9,278 out of a total of 11,836 seniors aged 65 and over, accounting for 78.3% of the eligible population.
The county received high marks for its proactive application guidance, management of eligible recipients, and increased efficiency in budget execution. In particular, efforts to address blind spots in pension coverage and prevent improper payments were recognized as exemplary cases.
