Kim Hocheol, Nominee for Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection: "Strengthening Self-Purification Function... Considering Reorganization of Oversight Department"
Attending the National Assembly Confirmation Hearing
Kim Hocheol, the nominee for Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, attended the National Assembly confirmation hearing and stated that he would strengthen the Board's self-purification function by considering a reorganization of the department responsible for overseeing internal staff.
On the 29th, Kim said, "I humbly accept the criticism that the control over the misconduct of Board of Audit and Inspection staff has been insufficient." He continued, "I will further strengthen the procedural legitimacy of audits to ensure that the human rights of those under investigation are fully protected," adding, "We will actively pursue audits that the public can feel, but in a way that is respectful of human rights."
He assessed that the Board of Audit and Inspection has lost public trust due to controversies over its independence and neutrality. He said, "There is an assessment that excessive policy audits and coercive audits have discouraged the public sector," and added, "I will take the lead in blocking undue external interference and pressure."
