AI, Bio, Mobility, and Marine Energy... BISTEP Presents Busan's Future Science and Technology Roadmap
35 Key Issues Identified
A comprehensive report outlining the key issues and policy directions for the future of science and technology in Busan has been released.
The Busan Institute for Science, Technology and Higher Education Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngboo), the dedicated agency for regional science and technology policy based on R&D in Busan, announced on the 26th that it has published the "Busan Science and Technology Issue Discovery Insight Group Report," which summarizes major science and technology issues and achievements aimed at securing Busan's future growth engines.
Since March, BISTEP has operated the Insight Group to explore sustainable growth strategies through the advancement of Busan's core industries and the fostering of new industries. The Insight Group consists of four divisions: AI & Digital, Bio & Health, Manufacturing & Mobility, and Marine & Energy, with 21 experts participating in each field. At the performance-sharing session held at the end of November, the group identified a total of 35 key policy agendas.
This report is the result of combining the policy agendas proposed at the performance-sharing session with voices from the local industrial field and in-depth analysis from experts, and concretizing them into a mid- to long-term science and technology strategy. Key topics include the AI transformation (AX) of the manufacturing industry, the establishment of a medical cluster based on a particle accelerator, support for AI-based robotic automation demonstration for the advancement of processes in small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in Busan, the advancement of smart port and logistics systems, and the fostering of quantum bio and small modular reactors (SMRs).
BISTEP explained that the report is significant in that it presents a concrete policy blueprint for Busan to strengthen its existing industrial competitiveness while securing new growth axes based on advanced science and technology.
