Yongin City Implements 'Smart Intersections' Along 4.8km Section of National Route 43
Applied to Eight Intersections from Gwanggyo Jungang-ro Samgeori to Jukjeon Samgeori
Real-time Collection of Traffic Volume and Speed, Signal System Operated by AI
'Intersection congestion will now be resolved by artificial intelligence (AI).'
On December 23, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has completed the construction of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) at eight major intersections along National Route 43 and will begin operating the 'Smart Intersection' system from today.

The newly completed Smart Intersection system has been applied to a 4.8-kilometer section of National Route 43, from Gwanggyo Jungang-ro Samgeori to Jukjeon Samgeori.
This road serves as a major arterial route connecting the east and west of Yongin. In particular, the section in question is densely populated with residential areas, leading to heavy traffic during commuting hours and a high risk of congestion and accidents. The city has been promoting the ITS project to prevent traffic accidents and resolve chronic congestion along this road section.
The city plans to comprehensively review on-site conditions and, after consultations with relevant agencies, gradually incorporate the system into signal operations. The collected traffic information will also be used to continuously refine traffic operation indicators and to develop traffic policies.
