Opening Remarks at the National Assembly Confirmation Hearing on December 16
On December 16, Kim Jongcheol, nominee for Chairman of the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission, made it clear that he would take a firm stance against false and manipulated information, and stated his intention to revise excessive or outdated regulations to revitalize the broadcasting and media industry.
During his opening remarks at the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee confirmation hearing on this day, Kim said, "I will respond effectively to false and manipulated information and its associated harms, which fundamentally threaten human dignity and the basic democratic order," adding, "I will apply a zero-tolerance policy to illegal information such as drugs and sexually exploitative materials."
He further stated, "I will promote industrial innovation by balancing regulation and support," and added, "In line with the purpose of establishing the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission, I will actively improve unnecessary or outdated regulations that hinder the promotion of the broadcasting and media industry."
