[Photo] Special Prosecutor for Insurrection Officially Concludes Investigation
On December 15, Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok entered the briefing room at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to announce the results of the investigation, including the motives behind former President Yoon Sukyeol's declaration of martial law and the initial timing of its preparations. The special prosecutor for insurrection concluded that the motive behind former President Yoon's declaration of martial law on December 3 of last year was "to eliminate political opposition forces, regardless of party affiliation." The investigation determined that it was an illegal imposition of martial law intended to arrest and detain opposing forces-including not only the then-opposition Democratic Party of Korea but also Han Donghoon, former leader of the People Power Party, and others who opposed Yoon's intentions-without lawful warrants.
