Discussing Industry-Academia-Government Cooperation Based on the Busan-Style RISE Model

Gyeongnam Information University, known as the “representative community college of Busan,” held the “Open UIC Industry-Academic Cooperation Network Day” event on December 8 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Busan, aiming to strengthen the industry-academia-government cooperation ecosystem among local industries, universities, and municipal governments.

View original imageApproximately 100 participants from related organizations, including the Busan RISE Innovation Center, Busan Venture Business Association, Sasang District Office, and local industry representatives, attended the event to discuss the direction of industrial and educational innovation based on the Busan-style RISE model.
The event consisted of several sessions: an introduction to the background and direction of the RISE project by the Busan RISE Innovation Center; a keynote speech by Kwak Youngho, Senior Vice President of the Busan Venture Business Association, titled “Industry-Academic Cooperation Desired by Local Companies”; and a presentation by Gyeongnam Information University on the major achievements of the RISE project and the university’s role. Participants agreed on the necessity of industry-academic cooperation models to respond to the changing structure of the local industry.
In his keynote speech, Kwak Youngho, Senior Vice President of the Busan Venture Business Association, emphasized, “A practical cooperation structure between universities and companies is essential to create a sustainable local industrial ecosystem,” and presented the direction for industry-academic cooperation desired by the local industry, receiving an enthusiastic response.
President Kim Taesang stated, “Through the RISE project, Gyeongnam Information University has been making various efforts to innovate education that reflects local industry demand and to nurture field-oriented, practical talent,” adding, “We will continue to faithfully fulfill our role as Busan’s representative community college, growing together with the region.”

Based on the purpose of the RISE project, Gyeongnam Information University plans to focus its capabilities on cultivating specialized talent needed by local industries, building a sustainable innovation ecosystem together with the local community, and ensuring the successful implementation of the project.
