Daejeon Office of Education Selects Six Recipients for the 36th Hanbat Education Awards

The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Seol Dongho) finalized the selection of six recipients in each category on December 5, following deliberation by the Hanbat Education Awards Merit Review Committee.
The Hanbat Education Awards are presented annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Daejeon. The awards are divided into six categories: Early Childhood and Special Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Arts and Physical Education, Educational Administration, and Lifelong Education & Educational Philanthropy.
The recipients are as follows: ▲Inwoo Song, Director of Green Kindergarten, for Early Childhood and Special Education; ▲Yoon Jungbyung, Education Director at the Daejeon Western District Office of Education, for Elementary Education; ▲Yang Sujo, Education Director at the Daejeon Eastern District Office of Education, for Secondary Education; ▲Kim Heejong, Principal of Chungnam High School, for Arts and Physical Education; ▲Jeong Hoigeun, Former Administrative Director at the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, for Educational Administration; and ▲Kyunghun Kim, Director of Baroseum Hospital, for Lifelong Education & Educational Philanthropy.
Inwoo Song, Director of Green Kindergarten, was selected for the Early Childhood and Special Education category in recognition of his contributions as President of the Daejeon Private Kindergarten Association. He has worked to strengthen teacher competency and improve the quality of kindergarten operations by providing lesson consulting to both public and private kindergarten teachers, participating in kindergarten evaluations and lesson review activities, and serving as an advisory member for the Daejeon Unified Early Childhood Education Policy. His efforts have helped raise awareness of the importance and direction of early childhood education and contributed to its development.
Yoon Jungbyung, Education Director, was selected for the Elementary Education category for his significant contributions to the advancement of education in Daejeon. Having held key positions in both educational fieldwork and administration, he has resolved conflicts within the educational community through active communication, strengthened collaborative systems with related organizations, fostered a culture of cooperation, and promoted integrity in public service. He has also supported teacher competency development and contributed to the holistic growth of students across various domains, thereby driving innovation in teaching and learning.
Yang Sujo, Education Director, was recognized in the Secondary Education category for supporting curricula that foster core competencies and promoting educational policies aimed at nurturing creative convergence talents, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of public education. He has contributed to developing student competencies based on autonomy and responsibility, spreading a culture of consideration and respect in schools, and preventing school violence. As Education Director at the Daejeon Eastern District Office of Education, he has also been acknowledged for building cooperative systems with the local community, thereby raising the credibility and status of public education and contributing to the development of education in Daejeon.
Kim Heejong, Principal, was selected for the Arts and Physical Education category in recognition of over 30 years of establishing a community-linked physical education class model, conducting and disseminating scientific lesson research, achieving national results with school sports teams, and fostering student athletes while protecting their right to learn. Through participation in various committees and on-site support groups related to physical education, he has supported policy development and contributed to the advancement and professionalization of school physical education through research and field support.
Jeong Hoigeun, Former Administrative Director, was selected for the Educational Administration category for his contributions to establishing a stable organizational foundation for education in Daejeon and helping the office be recognized as an excellent education office in local education finance analysis for five consecutive years. He also established the first youth-only experiential space at the Daejeon Public Library, providing students with a place for reading and leisure. In addition, by supporting various reading programs for out-of-school youth, he has provided universal educational opportunities and made significant contributions to the development of education in Daejeon.
Kyunghun Kim, Director of Baroseum Hospital, was selected for the Lifelong Education & Educational Philanthropy category in recognition of his contributions to the healthy growth of students. He signed a medical donation agreement with the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education and provided free examinations and treatment for major musculoskeletal conditions such as growth plate checks, posture correction, and scoliosis to elementary, middle, and high school students in the region.
Yoo Jiwan, Deputy Superintendent of the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "I am delighted that those who have worked hard and contributed to the advancement of education in Daejeon have been selected as the honorable recipients of the Hanbat Education Awards. We will continue to discover and recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to further inspire morale and enhance the prestige of the Hanbat Education Awards as a symbol of educational development in Daejeon."

The Hanbat Education Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 31 at the main auditorium of the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education.
