Yeongwol County Secures 167.8 Billion Won in National Funding for 2026... Largest Amount Ever
Yeongwol County Gains Momentum in Tourism, SOC, and Safety
A Concrete Turning Point for the Expansion of Living and Economic Zones
Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province announced on December 8 that it has secured a total of 167.8 billion won in national funding for 2026, securing essential financial resources needed to revitalize the local economy and strengthen tourism competitiveness. This represents an increase of approximately 49.5 billion won compared to the previous year.
This achievement is the result of systematic efforts, including holding a strategy briefing on securing national funding, and explaining the necessity of projects through visits to central government ministries, the National Assembly, and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
With the inclusion of tourism infrastructure projects such as 1.6 billion won for the Regional Tourism Development through Competitive Project Proposals, 2.6 billion won for revitalizing tourism in abandoned mining areas, and 1 billion won for creating the Garden City Yeongwol, the growth of Yeongwol County's culture and tourism industries is expected to accelerate. In addition, budgets for strengthening safety infrastructure, such as 2.6 billion won for flood-prone area maintenance and 1.1 billion won for steep slope stabilization, as well as 53.4 billion won for rural village sewage system improvements and 1.6 billion won for modernizing the Sangdong Water Purification Plant, are included. These allocations are expected to balance local economic revitalization with improvements in residents' safety and living conditions.
Furthermore, with major national SOC (Social Overhead Capital) projects such as 41 billion won for the Jecheon-Yeongwol Expressway, 5 billion won for the Yeongwol-Samcheok Expressway, and 9 billion won for the Dogye-Yeongwol Road included in the government budget, accessibility between southern Gangwon centered on Yeongwol and both the Yeongseo and Yeongdong regions will be significantly enhanced. Once these transportation network expansion projects are completed, they are expected to shorten travel times to the Seoul metropolitan area, improve logistics efficiency, and increase tourist inflow, making the realization of a 'turning point for the expansion of living and economic zones' more concrete.
