Goyang City Prepares Mid- to Long-Term Strategies Including MRO Complex Development
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on the 8th that it held the final briefing session for the "Goyang Special City UAM Industry Development Plan Research Project" at the main conference room of Goyang City Hall on the 5th. During the session, participants discussed mid- to long-term strategies for industry development and attracting businesses in connection with the UAM metropolitan area demonstration project currently being promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

View original imageThe meeting was attended by Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, as well as researchers from Korea Aerospace University and YZEN Global, which carried out the research project. In addition, more than 20 experts and stakeholders from UAM-related academia and industry, including Korean Air, POSCO, the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology, and Korea Aerospace Industries, were present.
The research project comprehensively reported on the following: research on the UAM industry and review of domestic and international case studies; evaluation of phased target markets for the metropolitan area and Goyang City; survey on social acceptance of UAM in Goyang City and response strategies; a roadmap for UAM industry development and business attraction; the possibility of establishing a UAM MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) complex near the UAM demonstration site; and analysis of domestic and international UAM industries and identification and proposal of potential companies to attract.
Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is a future air mobility industry that can simultaneously transform both the transportation system and urban structure. Taking the Kintex-Gimpo Airport UAM demonstration as an opportunity, we will begin to actively promote mid- to long-term strategies such as vertiport site selection, transportation connectivity, and the creation of industrial and research clusters."

The city plans to finalize the research project based on the proposals made at this final briefing session and the general planning council. Moving forward, follow-up measures will be implemented step by step, including preparations for the UAM demonstration project centered on the UAM vertiport currently under construction by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at 2707 Daehwa-dong near Kintex, the development of a detailed mid- to long-term roadmap for fostering related industries, and attracting businesses.
