The names of six agro-industrial complexes in the Chuncheon area have been changed to "industrial complexes" and, starting December 4, they will officially operate under their new names.
On December 4, Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan), announced the completion of administrative procedures by officially notifying the name changes for six agro-industrial complexes (Changchon, Toegye, Dangnim, Geodu, Sudong, and Toegye 2). The Changchon Agro-Industrial Complex has been renamed Namsan Industrial Complex; Toegye Agro-Industrial Complex is now Toegye Industrial Complex; Dangnim Agro-Industrial Complex is now Dangnim Industrial Complex; Geodu Agro-Industrial Complex is now Geodu Industrial Complex; Sudong Agro-Industrial Complex is now Duzon Gangchon Campus Industrial Complex; and Toegye 2 Agro-Industrial Complex is now Toegye Mirae Industrial Complex.
The city plans to allocate its initial budget for next year to refurbish related facilities, such as guide signs and road signs, so that citizens and visitors can experience the new image of the industrial complexes.
Since May, the city has been reviewing the name changes in accordance with the agro-industrial complex revitalization plan discussed at the 2021 Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s National Policy Coordination Meeting. This is aimed at improving the outdated image of the agro-industrial complexes and enhancing their competitiveness. The city held several meetings with the resident companies’ association to fully reflect the opinions of the businesses.
In addition, the city is simultaneously working to improve the environment of the industrial complexes by expanding living and cultural infrastructure. Projects include the construction of a complex cultural center in the Geodu, Toegye, and Changchon Agro-Industrial Complexes (18.8 billion won), and the creation of beautiful streets in the Toegye and Changchon Agro-Industrial Complexes (3.8 billion won). Efforts are being accelerated to create an industrial environment that attracts young people and skilled professionals.
A city official stated, "Through the new names, we aim to enhance the brand value of the complexes and create a business-friendly environment," adding, "We will continue to provide support to attract young people and revitalize the local economy."
