Immediate Seizure of Vehicles with Large and Long-Term Tax Arrears
Comprehensive Measures Including Compulsory Towing and Public Auction
On December 3, Sangju City, in cooperation with North Gyeongsang Province, designated the day as "Automobile Tax and Fine Arrears Vehicle Intensive Crackdown Day" and conducted a rigorous crackdown targeting vehicles with large and long-term tax arrears in the region.
This measure was carried out in line with the intensive tax arrears settlement period in the second half of 2025, as a joint response strategy by the province and the city to establish tax payment order and restore trust in local taxes.
Sangju City conducted mobile inspections, focusing on high-traffic areas and blind spots for enforcement, enabling immediate verification of arrears status on site. If arrears were identified, license plates were immediately seized. In particular, for vehicles with long-term and large arrears, a comprehensive measure was applied, including compulsory towing and subsequent public auction procedures.
The automobile tax accounts for about 20% of the total tax arrears in Sangju City, making it a representative category of delinquent taxes.
The city plans to accelerate the normalization of arrears management and promote a culture of faithful tax payment through this crackdown.
Prior to the crackdown, starting November 18, Sangju City had conducted promotional activities to encourage voluntary payment by citizens, such as installing banners at six designated public-purpose bulletin boards.
