This paper was highly evaluated for demonstrating the potential of microbial fuel cells to utilize microplastics as an energy source, decomposing them while generating electricity, thereby contributing to both renewable energy production and the mitigation of plastic pollution.
In addition, Yujin Kwon, a master's student in the same department, received the Excellence Award for her paper titled "Effects of Polystyrene Microplastic Pollution on the Physicochemical Properties of Coastal Sediments" (supervised by Professor Kim Kyunghoe).
Jaeyong Lee, a third-year student in the same department, was also selected for the Excellence Award for his paper titled "Prediction of Coastal Hypoxic Water Mass Occurrence Using Satellite Data and Machine Learning: Analysis of the Lag Effect of Environmental Factors" (supervised by Professor Kim Kyunghoe).
