Explained the City's Future Vision at the Remote Conference
Jung Jang-sun, Mayor of Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi Province, pledged full support for the establishment of the "KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus" in front of the department heads of KAIST.
According to Pyeongtaek City on December 3, Mayor Jung attended the general department heads meeting held at KAIST in Daejeon via remote conference on December 1. He presented the city's future vision and emphasized his commitment to cooperation for the establishment of the KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus.

View original imageThe KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus is planned to be built on university-designated land within the Pyeongtaek Brain City General Industrial Complex. The first phase, including the university headquarters, is scheduled to be completed by 2029. After opening, the campus will be responsible for education and research activities aimed at fostering talent in AI semiconductors and promoting the AI transformation (AX) industry.
The meeting was organized by KAIST to discuss the establishment of the KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus within the Pyeongtaek Brain City General Industrial Complex. Mayor Jung and key officials from the city participated in the remote conference, while KAIST was represented by President Lee Kwang-hyung and about 50 department heads.
During the meeting, Mayor Jung introduced the changes expected in Pyeongtaek, focusing on the future growth engines that the KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus and its surrounding areas will create. He highlighted major issues such as the groundbreaking of Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Plant 5, the expansion of the metropolitan transportation network, and the creation of a large urban forest, stressing that "the future that KAIST will build together with Pyeongtaek will generate significant synergy."
Mayor Jung also held a Q&A session with KAIST faculty members. He promised, "We will review various cooperation measures to ensure that KAIST members can focus on their research in a stable environment."
