Secures Special Grant of 100 Million Won
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) won the Grand Prize at the "2025 Best Practices Competition for Supporting Foreign Residents" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety at the Government Complex Sejong on December 1, 2025. As a result, Gimpo City will receive a special grant of 100 million won.

View original imageThis competition was organized to discover and promote creative and effective policies for supporting foreign residents tailored to local characteristics. A total of 66 cases were submitted by metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide, and after the first and second rounds of evaluation, eight local governments advanced to the final review. Gimpo City was the only local government in Gyeonggi Province to be selected for the final stage.
Gimpo City received high praise for its case titled "The Nation's First School Admission Notification for Foreign Children to Address Educational Opportunity Inequality and Promote Social Integration." This policy focused on eliminating blind spots in compulsory education for foreign children and ensuring universal educational rights for school-age children regardless of their legal status.
During the final review, Gimpo City also presented real-life cases of supporting foreign children's adaptation to school and the effects of community integration, which received positive responses from attendees. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety comprehensively evaluated creativity, effectiveness, scalability, and presentation quality, ultimately selecting Gimpo City as the top local government.
