Uiryeong County Increases Next Year's Budget by 3.14% to Record 538.7 Billion Won

Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 26th that it had submitted a record-high budget proposal of 538.7 billion won for next year to the county council on the 25th. This represents an increase of 3.14% (approximately 16.3 billion won) compared to this year.
The county explained that the expanded budget was made possible by a combination of proactive financial management, including achievements in attracting investment, selection for various government-funded projects, accurate revenue forecasts, and accumulation of the Integrated Fiscal Stabilization Fund.

View original imageBy sector, the budget allocations are as follows: 110.6 billion won for agriculture and forestry, 95.3 billion won for social welfare, 91.7 billion won for national land and regional development, 47.2 billion won for environment and health, 43.9 billion won for general public administration, 30.2 billion won for culture and tourism, and 8 billion won for industry and regional development.
The county emphasized that the largest portion is allocated to social welfare, with a focus on strengthening welfare services. It also stated that resources have been concentrated on projects to improve residents’ quality of life, such as rural space improvement, urban regeneration, and expansion of residential infrastructure.
Major projects include: 12.5 billion won for the Jungdong District Localized Urban Regeneration Project; 11.6 billion won for the Burim-myeon Rural Space Improvement Project; 4.3 billion won for the construction of job-linked support housing; 7.2 billion won for the creation of a youth hostel; 3.5 billion won for the Garae Baegamdae Suspension Bridge; 2.2 billion won to support the operation of public buses; 1.7 billion won for the installation of a roundabout at Uiryeong-eup Central Intersection; and 900 million won to support emergency medical institutions.
For next year, the county has set five key policy priorities: fostering youth and strengthening residential infrastructure; revitalizing the local economy centered on culture and tourism industries; expanding welfare services and creating a safe environment; expanding the metropolitan transportation network and improving residential infrastructure; and promoting innovative administration and greater citizen participation.
A Uiryeong County official stated, "These policy directions are the result of sound financial management, with consistent investment in stabilizing livelihoods, boosting economic vitality, and enhancing urban competitiveness," adding, "Based on the secured resources, we will continue to focus on improving the quality of life for residents next year."
In his policy speech delivered on this day, County Governor Oh Tae-wan said, "The changes we have achieved over the past three years will now continue as ongoing 'ING changes.' In the final year of the eighth popularly elected administration, we will fully implement the I·N·G change strategy as a key driver for opening Uiryeong’s future."
The I·N·G change strategy described by Governor Oh is summarized by three core values: I (Improving) for ongoing improvement, N (Next) for moving to the next stage, and G (Growing) for growing together.
Governor Oh further emphasized, "We will build a sustainable residential foundation where all generations can stay and grow together, and strengthen welfare services closely tied to daily life, making Uiryeong a city where people want to stay and experience living."

Meanwhile, the budget proposal for next year will be finalized after review at the 295th regular session of the Uiryeong County Council, which will be held until December 5.
