Imsil County Expands Operation of Unmanned Transparent PET Bottle Collection Machines
Two More Machines to Be Installed Next Year
"Promoting a Culture of Resource Circulation"
Imsil County in North Jeolla Province announced on November 26 that it will expand the operation of unmanned transparent PET bottle collection machines to promote a resource circulation culture in collaboration with local residents.
The county recently installed a new unmanned transparent PET bottle collection machine inside the Gwanchon Sports and Culture Center, and relocated the machine previously installed at Yosan Park to a spot next to the resource collection facility at the Seomgim Senior Welfare Center in Osu-myeon.
With these changes, there are now a total of five unmanned collection machines operating in Imsil County. The county plans to further strengthen its resource circulation infrastructure by installing two additional machines next year.
The unmanned transparent PET bottle collection machine is a vending machine-style device that awards points when transparent PET bottles are deposited.
After downloading the dedicated app from a smartphone app store and registering as a member, users can enter their mobile phone number on the machine's screen and insert transparent PET bottles-after removing the plastic label and cap-one by one. The machine automatically recognizes each bottle and credits 10 points per item. When a user accumulates more than 2,000 points, they can exchange the points for cash.
The collected transparent PET bottles undergo crushing and washing processes before being reborn as high-quality recycled materials such as textile fibers and recycled containers, thereby contributing to the activation of resource circulation within the region.
