2nd Term of the "Daejeon Local Era Committee" Launched
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon:
“A Strategic Partner in Shaping a New Paradigm for National Balanced Growth”
On November 25, Daejeon City held the appointment ceremony for the “2nd Daejeon Metropolitan City Local Era Committee” at the Onoma Hotel.
For this committee, Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, reappointed 15 members from the first Local Era Committee who demonstrated expertise and consistent participation. To incorporate a broader range of perspectives, including those of youth and multi-sector businesses, four new members were also appointed.
Choi Hotek, a professor at Paichai University, was appointed as the chairperson.
In his remarks, Mayor Lee stated, “We are in an era where local autonomy and region-led balanced development systems are emphasized. The 2nd Local Era Committee will play a significant role as a strategic partner in shaping Daejeon’s future vision and a new paradigm for national balanced growth.”
Following the appointment ceremony, a discussion-based workshop was held. Professor Choi Jinhyuk of Chungnam National University presented on “Daejeon-Chungnam Administrative Integration,” and Dr. Choi Jimin of the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration gave a presentation on the “Direction and Strategic Tasks for the Five Axes and Three Special Zones Initiative.”

Choi Hotek, Chairperson of the Local Era Committee, said, “While the first committee focused on establishing the foundation for local governance and securing momentum for decentralization-based balanced development, the launch of the second committee will further strengthen the linkage with the government’s ‘Five Axes and Three Special Zones National Balanced Growth Strategy.’ By deliberating and reviewing the city’s major balanced development and local autonomy policies, this committee will provide greater momentum for Daejeon’s key policy initiatives.”
