Apply for Next Year's '1,000-Won Breakfast' for University Students and Industrial Complex Workers... Selection to Be Announced in December
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on November 25 that it will be accepting applications for participation in the 2026 “1,000-Won Breakfast” program from universities nationwide and organizations such as companies or councils located in industrial complexes (hereinafter referred to as “resident companies, etc.”) until December 9.
The 1,000-Won Breakfast program is a dietary support policy that provides a healthy breakfast made with Korean rice for just 1,000 won to young people (university students) with a high rate of skipping breakfast and to industrial complex workers with limited access to food. Next year, the number of breakfasts provided to young people (university students) will be expanded by 900,000 meals to a total of 5.4 million meals annually, compared to this year. For industrial complex workers, who are part of the pilot program in its first year, 900,000 meals will be provided annually.
All universities nationwide (excluding cyber and remote universities) and companies or organizations located within industrial complexes are eligible to apply. Applicants must complete the application form and submit it along with the required documents via email to the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The agency will review the submitted documents and conduct a selection evaluation, after which the selected universities and resident companies within industrial complexes will be announced in December. Those selected for the program will receive partial support for breakfast costs starting in January of the following year. For a meal priced at 5,000 won, a total of 4,000 won will be subsidized-2,000 won from the government, 1,000 won from the university (or company), and 1,000 won from the local government-allowing students or workers to have breakfast for 1,000 won. However, companies in industrial complexes selected for the 1,000-Won Breakfast for Workers program cannot receive overlapping support from the “Hearty Lunch for Office Workers” program, which is scheduled to begin in the second half of next year.
