Suspected Drug Substance Found on Yeongdeok Coast Following Discoveries in Jeju and Pohang
White Substance Found in Green Packaging Marked "Tea"
Packaging and Characteristics Identical to Those Discovered in Jeju and Pohang
Following the recent discovery of suspected drug substances in Pohang, similar materials have now been found on the Yeongdeok coast, prompting an investigation by the Coast Guard.
According to the Uljin Coast Guard Station on November 25, a soldier from the 16th Coastal Surveillance Battalion of the 50th Army Division discovered 1 kilogram of a white substance at Baekseok Beach in Byeonggok-myeon, Yeongdeok County the previous day. The substance was found in green packaging printed with the Chinese character for "tea."
This material was double-wrapped in transparent plastic inside packaging marked with the Chinese character for "tea." Its packaging and characteristics are identical to those of ketamine, a narcotic recently found on the coasts of Jeju and Pohang.
The Uljin Coast Guard has requested an analysis from the National Forensic Service and plans to proceed with an investigation based on the results. Previously, between last month and this month, a total of 3 kilograms of ketamine disguised in tea packaging were found in three separate incidents along the Pohang coast.
In Jeju as well, 15 cases of drugs disguised in tea bags were discovered over the past 50 days.
