Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun Urges LH to Promptly Hold Residents' Briefing on Dongtan 2 Development Plan Changes
"Development of the Metropolitan Business Complex Must Be Conducted Transparently"
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has urged Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to promptly hold a residents' briefing session regarding changes to the Dongtan 2 District development plan.
On November 24, Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun of Hwaseong City stated in a press release, "We express serious concern over LH's repeated postponement of the residents' briefing session related to the changes in the Dongtan 2 development plan."
This appears to be because, since the public notice in October last year regarding changes to the Dongtan 2 development and implementation plan-including the Metropolitan Business Complex development-LH has delayed the residents' briefing session that was promised during a meeting with residents in March of this year.
The proposed changes to the development plan include: ▲ attracting anchor facilities to the Metropolitan Business Complex ▲ large-scale block development for regional revitalization ▲ promoting a public contest project for the Dongtan Station area ▲ expanding housing supply by 2,034 units.
The Metropolitan Business Complex is a project to develop a three-dimensional, integrated complex within the 1,499,000-square-meter commercial and business area of Dongtan 2 District, featuring the construction of metropolitan transfer facilities such as KTX, as well as office buildings, a convention center, hotels, and parks.
The city claimed that, despite several official requests to hold a residents' briefing session, LH has not provided a schedule for several months.

Mayor Jeong stated, "The development plan for the Metropolitan Business Complex must be carried out transparently," adding, "If the residents' briefing session is not held, we will have no choice but to demand that the changes to the development plan proceed as originally proposed, reflecting residents' concerns." He further emphasized, "LH should seek the optimal development plan by sufficiently incorporating residents' opinions, rather than resorting to coercive methods."
