The Caregiver Family Rest System is a program first implemented nationwide by Yeongdeungpo District in 2023. In households requiring care, such as those with dementia or age-related illnesses, a team of two volunteers visits directly to provide a range of care services including companionship, exercise, meals, hospital accompaniment, and cognitive training. The program offers emotional stability to seniors and respite to caregiving families.

To date, more than 770 volunteers have participated, providing 3,227 care services. This initiative received the Excellence Award at the 2024 Administrative and Policy Best Practices Competition and has been recognized as a model case of public-private cooperation.

The performance sharing meeting will be attended by 150 people, including care volunteers and officials from related organizations. The event will feature presentations on the project’s progress and achievements, awards for outstanding volunteers, sharing of volunteer experiences, and a video screening.

The district plans to improve the quality of care services next year by recruiting new volunteers, systematizing training, and expanding user connections. Free early dementia screening, cognitive training, and expert counseling will also be offered as part of dementia prevention programs.

Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “Thanks to the warm dedication of our volunteers, we are bringing happiness to seniors and true respite to caregiving families. We will continue to build a comprehensive care system in preparation for a super-aged society, making Yeongdeungpo a happy place for all generations.”
