Man in His 30s Arrested for Threatening Bomb Attack on Blue House... Charged Under Newly Enacted Public Intimidation Law
A man in his 30s has been arrested after making a threatening phone call to a military unit, claiming he would carry out a bomb attack on the Blue House.
The Jeonbuk Police Agency announced on November 19 that they had detained and are investigating Mr. A on charges of public intimidation, after he called a military unit in Iksan on November 15 and issued threats.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A, who is currently unemployed, stated that he made the threatening call because “I am being monitored by the National Intelligence Service, but the police are not responding.”
The police have charged Mr. A under the newly established “public intimidation” offense in the Criminal Act, which was introduced on March 18 of this year. This law was enacted to minimize social disruption and the waste of police resources caused by terror threats targeting crowded places or specific facilities.
A police official explained that an arrest warrant was issued by the court due to the seriousness of the case.
