Mirae Asset Securities Receives Joint First IMA Operator Approval... Expected to Expand Venture Capital Supply
Mirae Asset Securities announced on November 19 that it has obtained joint approval as the first Integrated Investment Account (IMA) operator from the financial authorities.
With its selection as a joint first IMA operator, Mirae Asset Securities plans to expand funding into the 'productive finance' sector, such as venture and small and medium-sized innovative enterprises, in line with the government's policy to revitalize venture capital.
The IMA is a system designed so that securities companies bear the principal payment obligation, allowing customers to expect returns exceeding market interest rates. From the customer's perspective, it offers both stability and the opportunity to pursue profitability by investing in corporate finance products such as corporate loans, mezzanine products, and project finance, which have traditionally been difficult for individual investors to access.
Mirae Asset Securities aims to further segment the product structure through the IMA and expand synergies with its existing strengths in the wealth management (WM) sector. The company plans to gradually enhance customized products tailored to each customer's different risk preferences and expected returns, thereby providing more sophisticated IMA services.
Starting with the first performance-based IMA product, the company will subsequently expand its lineup to include dividend-type and project-type (incorporating innovative growth companies) products. However, rather than focusing on short-term balance growth, Mirae Asset Securities plans to sequentially introduce high-quality second and third IMA products based on its global investment capabilities and venture investment network.
Jeon Kyungnam, Head of the Trading Division at Mirae Asset Securities, stated, "In line with the purpose of introducing the IMA, we will actively supply funds to venture capital and strive to contribute to a major shift toward productive finance." He added, "Since principal payments are backed by the credit of the securities company, we will provide trustworthy IMA products to our clients based on our expertise in risk management and operations as a global investment specialist."
