Yeosu City Sets 2026 Budget at 1.4825 Trillion Won
Mayor Chung Kimyung Announces Eight Key Operational Directions for Next Year
Focus on Successful Hosting of Island Expo and Restoration of Local Economy
On November 18, Mayor Chung Kimyung of Yeosu announced the city’s operational direction for the coming year through a municipal administration speech regarding the submission of the 2026 budget proposal at the 252nd City Council plenary session.
Mayor Chung emphasized, "We will do our utmost to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, restore the livelihoods of citizens and the local economy, and revitalize the culture and tourism industries," adding, "We will turn the current crisis into an opportunity."

View original imageMayor Chung highlighted a range of achievements this year, including Yeosu’s designation as a preemptive industrial and employment crisis response area, securing additional general grants, issuing a record amount of Yeosu Love Gift Certificates (135.5 billion won), being selected as a domestic candidate site for the UN Climate Change Conference Climate Week, selection of the Dolsan Sinbok-Udu Road expansion project for preliminary feasibility study, designation of the Musulmok Tourism Complex, designation of the Baekri Seomseomgil as a national tourism road, and exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the 2030 Resource Recovery Facility.
In addition, to build Yeosu as the "Maritime Hub City of the Southern Coast," he announced eight key operational directions for next year: ▲ focusing all administrative capacity on the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo ▲ minimizing the impact of restructuring in the petrochemical industry and supporting industrial restructuring ▲ advancing as a hub city for culture and tourism on the southern coast ▲ proactively responding to the climate crisis and fostering future-oriented new industries ▲ creating a vibrant city for young people ▲ strengthening the social safety net, among others.
To support these priority policies, the city’s budget proposal for next year is set at 1.4825 trillion won, an increase of 200 million won compared to this year’s main budget. Of this, the general account is allocated 1.3555 trillion won, and the special account 127 billion won.

Mayor Chung stated, "Together with more than 2,500 public officials, I will do my utmost to make Yeosu a city where today is happy and tomorrow is something to look forward to," and requested the active cooperation of citizens and the city council.
