Mona Yongpyong to Become Korea's First Ski Resort to Open This Winter on the 21st
Mona Yongpyong, a four-season premium resort led by CEO Park Injun, announced on November 19 that it will be the first ski resort in Korea to open its slopes for the winter season, with the official opening scheduled for November 21.
On the first day of the season, Mona Yongpyong will initially open the Pink slope, which is suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers, out of its total 28 slopes. The resort will focus on operating courses that can ensure stable snow conditions at the outset and plans to sequentially open all slopes by the end of the year, taking into account temperature changes and snowfall levels.
On opening day, a ceremony will be held to celebrate the start of the season, and a variety of on-site events are planned, including the distribution of complimentary bread to the first guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
This winter season, Mona Yongpyong will offer a range of programs not only for skiers but also for families. On December 24, a Christmas musical gala show featuring musical actress Hong Jimin will take place. For the year-end, the resort has prepared a New Year's countdown program that includes busking performances, a fireworks show, and a sunrise cable car ride. In February next year, the "Foreigners' Ski Festival," an event with a 43-year history that attracts about 500 participants including diplomats and expatriate families in Korea, will be held. At the end of February, the season finale will feature "Balwangsu Splash," Korea's only water pond performance-style ski event.
Mona Yongpyong is recognized as a leading ski resort in Korea, operating the largest number of slopes in the country with 28, as well as 14 lifts. Its wide variety of courses, categorized by difficulty, allow both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the resort. Over 50 years of accumulated know-how in snowmaking and slope management is regarded as a key competitive edge, ensuring stable snow quality throughout the season.
A representative from Mona Yongpyong stated, "As a ski resort that has grown alongside Korean skiing, we are placing even greater emphasis on snow quality management and safe operations," adding, "From the very first day of the season, we will provide the best skiing environment so that skiers and snowboarders can fully enjoy the season."
