Daejeon City Abolishes "University Student Part-Time Job" Program...Expands Eligibility to All Youth Regardless of Educational Background
Eligibility Expanded to Youth Aged 18 to 39
Fairness and Transparency Enhanced Through Computerized Lottery
Daejeon City will abolish its existing "University Student Part-Time Job" program and revamp it into the "Youth Administrative Internship," which will be open to all local youth regardless of university enrollment status. The new program will launch in the winter of 2026.
The "Youth Administrative Internship" is designed to help young people gain hands-on administrative experience at the city hall, affiliated offices, public corporations and agencies, as well as city-funded and city-invested institutions, thereby supporting their career exploration and deepening their understanding of municipal administration.
Previously, the university student-centered approach limited participation based on educational background. To address this, eligibility has been expanded to include all youth aged 18 to 39 who reside in Daejeon (or whose direct ascendants reside in Daejeon).
Recruitment will be divided into two categories: Special Selection (for recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program, those in the lower-income bracket, registered persons with disabilities, registered single-parent families, and national merit awardees) and General Selection (all other applicants). To ensure fairness and transparency, a computerized lottery system will be used for selection.
The main points of this reform are: ▲ Any local youth can participate regardless of university enrollment status ▲ The introduction of a special selection category ensures participation of socially and economically vulnerable groups ▲ Transparency in the selection process is secured through computerized random draws.
Other aspects-such as the duration of work (four weeks each in winter and summer), wages (living wage applied), and work locations (city hall, affiliated offices, public corporations and agencies, city-funded and city-invested institutions)-will remain the same as the previous university student part-time job program.
The recruitment notice for the 2026 winter session will be available on November 24 through the Daejeon City Hall website and the Daejeon Youth Portal.
