Gyeonggi Province will host the "K-Defense Future-Centered! Northern Gyeonggi Defense Innovation Cluster Symposium" at Island Castle in Uijeongbu on November 20. The event aims to foster discussions on nurturing a hub for advanced defense industries and exploring the direction for establishing a defense innovation cluster.

View original imageApproximately 80 participants are expected to attend the symposium, including the Director of the Balanced Development Planning Office of Gyeonggi Province, Provincial Assembly members Park Sanghyun and Yoon Chungsik, officials from Gyeonggi Province and northern local governments, representatives from defense companies, and experts.
The event will feature discussions focused on the definition of a defense innovation cluster, directions for its establishment tailored to northern Gyeonggi, and strategies for implementation.
In the keynote lecture, Jung Youngcheol, Research Fellow at the Agency for Defense Development, will introduce national policy directions and existing cases related to defense innovation clusters, and propose differentiated strategies leveraging Gyeonggi Province's strengths.
In the first thematic presentation, Jung Wonjoong, Head of the AI Cluster Team at the Gyeonggi Institute of Science & Technology Promotion, will present strategies for creating a defense innovation cluster ecosystem by utilizing the concentrated defense infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi.
In the second thematic presentation, Oh Sejin, Director of Pine VT Research Institute, will discuss the necessity of fostering northern Gyeonggi as a key hub for advanced defense industries. He will present opinions on introducing a common platform (ROS2) for stable operation of unmanned systems and developing a strategy for the localization of parts based on Maintenance, Repair, and Operation (MRO) to support this goal.
The designated panel discussion will be moderated by Seo Hoil, former Deputy Director of Equipment Maintenance at Army Headquarters. Panelists will include Provincial Assembly member Park Sanghyun, Kim Sejoong, former Director of Technology Planning at the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, Jung Hyunsoo, Head of Missile Systems Business Division at LIG Nex1, Ha Yooncheol, Executive Director of Research Planning at Hanwha Systems, and Hyun Byungcheon, Director of Planning and Budget at Gyeonggi Province. They will share various policy and technical recommendations.

Kim Sangsoo, Director of the Balanced Development Planning Office, stated, "At the town hall meeting chaired by the President in Paju on November 14, the importance of the defense industry as a new growth engine for northern Gyeonggi was highlighted," adding, "We will comprehensively review ways to build an industrial ecosystem based on future defense industries for the practical development of northern Gyeonggi and establish a solid policy foundation."
