Paju City Named Excellent Institution for 7 Consecutive Years in 'Clean Gyeonggi Initiative'
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on November 18 that it was selected as an excellent institution in the '2025 Clean Gyeonggi Initiative' city and county evaluation, organized by Gyeonggi Province, securing a project budget of 30 million won.
With this achievement, Paju City has become the only local government in Gyeonggi Province to be recognized as an excellent institution for seven consecutive years (from 2019 to 2025) since the evaluation was introduced in 2019, securing a total of 730 million won in incentive project funding.
The '2025 Clean Gyeonggi Initiative' evaluation assessed 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. It consisted of a quantitative evaluation based on 10 detailed indicators, such as reducing the amount of municipal solid waste generated and strengthening enforcement and public awareness to prevent illegal activities, as well as a qualitative evaluation that measured the results of unique local policies to reduce municipal solid waste.
Paju City received high marks in the quantitative evaluation indicators, including ▲reducing waste generation and increasing recycling rates ▲strengthening publicity to prevent illegal activities ▲establishing infrastructure for separate waste collection ▲assigning responsibility to expand resident participation ▲and implementing the 'Korea Renewal' initiative, ranking third overall. In addition, by continuously expanding policies to reduce single-use items, such as hosting festivals without disposable products, and by developing differentiated initiatives such as declaring a carbon-neutral vision and building a resource-circulating hydrogen city, Paju City ranked first in the qualitative evaluation and ultimately achieved second place in Group B.
