Paju City Improves Signal Systems at Congested Intersections in Unjeong New Town
Priority Implementation at Three Key Intersections Including Simhak Mountain Intersection
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on November 18 that it has prioritized and completed the implementation of signal system improvements at three locations-Simhak Mountain Intersection, Sannae Village Complex 10 Four-way Intersection, and Sannae Park Intersection-within Unjeong New Town, where chronic congestion had frequently occurred. The new signal systems were put into effect on November 17.

To resolve this structural congestion, the city changed the existing signal system, which had focused mainly on two-way straight traffic, to a combined straight and left-turn operation. The signal coordination at all three intersections was also reorganized. In addition, the city optimized the signal system using a 'smart intersection system' to ensure seamless flow throughout the entire section.
Yang Sungwon, Director of the Advanced Urban Information Division, stated, "The Simhak Mountain Intersection is a crucial point for Unjeong New Town residents traveling to Seoul and other areas. We will continue to monitor the improvements and do our utmost to ensure stable operation so that these signal system changes lead to tangible improvements in traffic flow."
